coast. We all experienced inconceivable events that changed our lives and way of
thinking forever. Some of us are still trying to recover and today on Christmas
Day many of us will hurt because the ones we love are not with us or because the
struggles that faced us this year will follow us into next. In 1776 our first president had defeat and failure after another. For Washington, everything that could go wrong went wrong that year but Washington never gave up. His men were dying, many were sick and more men were deserting their positions. On Christmas Day 1776 when morale was at its lowest, Washington's fate changed when he crossed the Delaware River into New Jersey in
the middle of a blizzard with a small army of resilient men. It was a tough
decision he made, faced with an army that had already lost hope. After a
grueling crossing Washington and his men marched into Trenton and defeated the
Hessians the next day. It was a miraculous victory for a small country with no
hope. If there is anything that Americans can do this day is to remember the
resilience and sacrifice of our founding father and that even though he faced
failure after failure he never gave up, never lost hope and made this country
the strong and united nation we are today.
